As part of the caring regimen, dog owners must always remember to clean other parts of the body such as their ears. Keeping it clean prevents your dog from ear mites and allergies.

Before cleaning your dog's ears, get the necessary cleaning implements such as cotton balls, cotton swab, damp wash cloth or ear cleaning solution. Your veterinarian or local pet supply store can provide this ear wash or ear cleaning solution. Some use mixture of water and hydrogen peroxide as substitute for ear cleaning solution.
The best way to clean the ears is to start from the outer area first. removing the dirt in this area can be done with the use of cotton ball dampened with cleaning solution. Then proceed to the inner ear by filling the ear canal with cleaning solution. Massaging the ear for about 20 seconds is enough to help loosen the dirt and ear wax. Using dry cotton balls, carefully wipe off the dirt and excess fluid.

A Shih Tzu will less likely contract the following diseases if proper cleaning of the ear is regularly done:

Otitis Media

Otits Media or infection of the middle ear occurs when the infection of the external ear canal spreads into the middle ear. Dog owners should be careful of foreign bodies, debris and ulceration and even when cleaning to prevent rupturing the eardrum, allowing bacteria to reach the middle ear. Middle ear infection exhibits odor, discharge, ear scratching, head shaking and head tilt.

Otitis Externa

An inflammation of the ear canal is called Otitis Externa or outer ear infection. The inflammation travels from the outside opening of the ear moving inward to the eardrum. Causes of Otitis Externa are bacteria, fungi, ear mites, accumulation of wax, thick or matted hair in the canal, debris, impaired drainage of the ear and infections from other parts of the body.

Hematoma of the Ear Flap

This condition occurs when the blood is accumulated between the cartilage and skin of the ear flap. This ear problem is due to too much head shaking or scratching at the ears.

Ear Mite Infestation

Ear mites infest animals like dogs and cats. These small white creatures are highly contagious, infecting the whole litter even if only one dog is infested initially. Your dog will exhibit head shaking and ear scratching when infested with ear mites.

Shih Tzu care is not only limited to making your dog look beautiful. Keeping him clean matters the most.

200+ Dog Food Recipes OMG!

Yeah, I am here and was about going to tell you how most commercial dog foods are not all that dog friendly. So what should you do if you find yourself needing to be a surrogate mother to a small and fragile orphaned kitten?

Surprisingly, it is fairly straightforward to care for your orphaned or abandoned kitten successfully. The most burdensome aspect of the whole process is the amount of time you will need to invest in the care of this newborn bundle of fur. Also, you will need to equip yourself with seven essential pieces of kit that will be required to help you with your task. First, you will need to find a suitably sized cardboard box, then:
A hot water bottle.

Suitable nesting material.

An eye dropper.

2ml hypodermic syringe fitted with 5cm plastic tubing.

Baby bottle sterilizing solution.

An old towel.

These items will enable you to provide your orphaned kitten with the basics of life - warmth and nourishment.

A kitten's mother keeps her offspring warm with her own body heat but you will need to place your kitten's box near a radiator to keep it warm. Newborn kittens can become chilled very quickly and they need a temperature of 30-35 degrees centigrade in their first week of life, with 25 degrees thereafter.

As an alternative, a hot water bottle placed under one corner of their box will provide the warmth needed and your kitten will have the choice of moving to a cooler area of its home if it chooses.

It is important to make sure that your kitten cannot climb out of its box. Once away from its home, your kitten will become chilled very quickly. However, the box must be roomy enough to allow your kitten to move and play easily, whilst still providing security and a comfortable temperature. Using an old towel to partially cover the open top of the box is a good way to meet all these needs.

One job of a mother cat is making sure that her kittens are kept clean and that their bedding doesn't remain soiled. As you now have that responsibility, you will need to provide clean bedding regularly. Old newspaper is good for this as it can easily be removed and disposed of when dirty.

Once you have made sure that your kitten's warmth and security have been adequately provided for you will need to address the problem of feeding.

You will need to learn the technique of feeding your kitten with an eye dropper or, for larger kittens, a plastic tube attached to a syringe. Patience and persistence will be the order of the day! You will be able to get suitable kitten formula milk from your vet, together with any equipment you are short of and good pet stores generally have a range of equipment suitable for nursing small kittens. Always remember to sterilize bottles and equipment after each use, just like you would with a baby.

Place your kitten on an old towel on a firm surface - you lap will do if you feel that is sufficiently secure. Gently steady your kitten's head as you carefully squeeze a drop of milk into its mouth. With luck and patience, your orphaned kitten's suckling reflex will kick in and they will start to feed. Ensure that the teat is always full of milk and that you keep up a gentle pressure in response to your kitten's sucking.

Follow your vet's advice on the amount of formula to feed your kitten and always remain alert to the general health of your small orphan. If you are at all worried or concerned about any aspect of your kitten's health don't hesitate to call in the professionals and consult your vet without delay.

The sense of parental pride you will feel as you see your orphaned kitten grow and develop will be amazing. Your intervention, care and dedication, given with love, to this tiny and helpless creature has secured a happy and healthy future for a kitten that would otherwise have perished at birth.

So, yes! You certainly can save your orphaned kitten's life. But to succeed in this endeavour you will need to learn a great deal about how to give the essential care needed to replace a missing mother cat. It will be necessary to have all the information and guidence to hand and it will be your responsibility to acquire it and put it into practice. Your trouble will be well rewarded in the joy and pleasure of sharing your home with your healthy, loving kitten!

Is There a Difference Between Holistic and Organic Pet Foods?

Holistic pet foods, Natural pet foods and organic pets foods all refer to the same kind of food. Organic pet foods are free from the toxins pesticides can cause in plants and vegetables. The whole grains, fruits and vegetables used in organic pet foods are all grown natural without the use of chemicals. This makes organic pet foods a healthy choice when it comes to choosing your pet's diet.
Organic pet foods try to replicate the types of food your pet would have in the wild. This means for dogs and cats, organic pet foods contain fresh meat and not commercially processed meat. Therefore, the meats in organic pet foods are all low in fat and calories. You can control your pet's weight problems when you feed it organic pet food. Pet nutrition and wellness is the basis for organic pet food and when you switch to organic pet food you will have a happy, healthier pet. They are able to use all of the ingredients in organic pet foods and therefore produce less waste through bowel movements. There are more nutrients in the ingredients used to prepare organic pet foods because they are made with foods that you would eat yourself. You will notice that your pet eats less food when you feed it organic pet foods. This is not because the animal doesn't like organic pet foods, but instead it needs less organic pet food to feel full.

The essential vitamins and nutrients contained in organic pet foods increase the ability of the animal's body to heal itself when it feels ill. Thus organic pet food will reduce the number of visits you make to the vet and help to lengthen the life of the animal. You will have your pet around a lot longer once you start feeding it organic pet food.

It doesn't matter how old your pet is because you can start feeding it organic pet foods at any stage. From fleas to ticks to tapeworms, these parasites will surely cause various problems that could trouble your dog and affect his healthy condition if not treated at once. Know these parasites so that you will know what to do when your Beagles are infested.
Flea. Fleas are small external parasites, about 1.5 to 3.3 mm long. They are wingless insects and are usually dark colored. These fleas don't just consider their host's body as habitat; they are also feeding on the blood of their host. Killing these parasites requires crushing them between the fingernails because of their hard, polished body. The body is covered with hairs and short spines directed backward. Fleas in pets can be treated with the use of insecticides. The house and the surrounding environment should also be treated with spot-on insecticide, a fogger or spray insecticide that contains ingredients ideal in controlling the growth of these parasites. Frequent vacuuming will also contribute in eliminating fleas. Dog owners should always remember that keeping the surroundings clean is the best armor against this battle.

Tick. Same with fleas, ticks are external parasites feeding on the blood of its host. Ticks are classified into two; the hard ticks and the soft ticks. Hard ticks are known to submit diseases such as Lyme disease. Beagles running around tall grasses and shrubs have higher risk of being infested with ticks. A tick can be removed from the body of your pet with the help of a small set of tweezers. With the use of tweezers, grab the insect by the head and then pull it gently and steadily. As much as possible, try not to crush the tick's body because its stomach content or it's saliva back-flow might increase the possibility of infecting and irritating the host's skin.

Harvest mite. Letting your Beagles run free in the forests or grasslands? Beware because they are at greater chance of picking up harvest mites. These parasites measure 0.4 mm sticking and feeding on human skin. These chrome-orange colored parasites feed on the skin cell of its host, unlike fleas and ticks that are feeding on their host's blood. The larvae mite works by piercing the skin and injecting enzymes that digest cellular contents and then later become liquefied for their consumption.

Tapeworm. Tapeworms are found in the intestine of dogs. The eggs are often visible in your dog's feces or sticking to the dog's hair around the rear. These parasites look like small, flattened grain of white rice that moves. Since it is normal for Beagles to chase rabbits and hares, eating their catch is discouraged because rabbits and other wild rodents are often carrier of tapeworms. There are medicines available to treat tapeworm infestation. Just consult the vet or any dog expert for suggestions.

Pet Projects

Even though we like to think of our pets as important and treasured members of our families, we sometimes forget about ways we can include them in our home design and decorating plans.
Thanks to new products and technologies, it has never been easier to incorporate the needs of our four-legged (or in some cases, two-legged and gilled) friends into our home designs.

Fabrics: In addition to fun and whimsical pet-inspired patterns, the growing popularity of outdoor living spaces has led to the development of new moisture-resistant and antimicrobial fabrics that are indistinguishable from traditional indoor fabrics. Whether you choose them to upholster your pieces or use them just as slipcovers, these fabrics are ideal for pet owners who like to share their favorite sofas and chairs with their furry friends. Check out Crypton Super Fabrics to see new fabrics created by photographer William Wegman and architect Michael Graves that appeal to pet-loving families. Perennials Fabrics carries an extensive line of products ranging from contemporary to traditional patterns and has recently teamed up with textile designers Galbraith & Paul® to create an exciting new line of durable and beautiful products.

Flooring Surfaces: If you have a family member (or members) who suffer from allergies and you don't enjoy heavy cleaning on a frequent basis, you should avoid deep pile carpets such as shag rugs. Hard surfaces enable you to control allergens better, but in the past many pet owners shied away from hardwood floors because of concerns about claw and scratch marks. Thanks to a new water-based, low VOC polymer floor finish called "Traffic" from Bona , pet owners can put those fears to rest and once again enjoy beautiful and easy-to-clean hardwood floors.

Air Quality and Odor Control: Pet owners and non-pet owners alike should consider room or whole- house air purification systems that are attached to the air conditioning unit. These filtering systems, along with a good vacuum with a HEPA filter, can help remove allergens and irritants from your home (and not just pet irritants) thus making the air healthier for everyone. To help control pet odors, make sure you clean up any messes on carpets and fabrics as soon as they occur and use good quality kitty litters with maximum odor absorption capabilities. Yesterday's News® by Purina is made from recycled newspaper and is a good choice. Avoid scented cat litter - the chemicals used can irritate both you and your pet.

Space Planning - Indoors and Out: If you own a large dog or a big bird, you should consider this animal's space needs just as you would consider the space needs of another member of your family. Make sure your most-used living spaces (kitchen, family room, bedrooms) can accommodate your large animal. And regardless of whether your pets are big or small, find ways to integrate your animals' needs into your daily life by ensuring that pet beds, cages, fish tanks and crawling trees blend with the flow and style of your home. Depending on your style, you might find something appealing at postmodernpets.com or barkdeco.com. Try the Lotus Cat Tree or the wicker litter box from dogbedworks.com or petsnap.com

If your animal enjoys the great outdoors, you may want to consider a pet door for easy access in and out. Make sure your yard offers a cool, shady spot for those occasional (and much needed) cat, rabbit and dog naps and keep it enclosed to keep your special family members safe from traffic and other hazards, including wildlife that may prey on them. An outdoor bird aviary is perfect for milder climates and adds a touch of elegance to your garden.

A Room with a View: Lucky for us humans, many of our pets' special homes serve as more than just a place for them to hang their hats, so to speak, and can actually accentuate the aesthetics of our homes. The light, color and movement of a beautiful glass tank filled with azure water can reflect surrounding room light and highlight the bright colors of the exotic tropical fish that zip and zag about inside it. The rustic charm of an antique rabbit hutch might be the perfect anchor for a terrace or porch corner. A whimsical bird cage hanging gracefully from the ceiling can add vertical visual interest to a room. As evidenced by the items available through some of the websites listed above, the choices for stylish pet homes have exploded in recent years, so you no longer have to limit your choices to cheap plastic tubes in gaudy colors but can actually choose pet homes that enhance your existing decor.

So as you make plans to redesign or redecorate your home, remember all the warmth and comfort your pets bring to your life and make a commitment to find ways to make them warm and comfortable, too.

Corn Snake Care - Tips for Feeding Your Corn Snake

If you are researching corn snake care and have questions about feeding your snake, feel free to print out this list of feeding tips. These tips come from my many years of keeping and feeding snakes, including corns.

Feed baby corn snakes about every 5 - 7 days. Feed juvenile to adult corn snakes about once ever 10 - 14 days. Overfeeding your snake will make it fat and unhealthy, just as it does in humans.

Offer rodents (rats or mice) that are about the size of the snake's midsection, or slightly larger. Feeding your corn snake rodents that are too small will leave it hungry. Feeding it rodents that are too large could lead to regurgitation.

Avoid feeding your corn snake wild-caught rodents, as these can transmit parasites to the snake. The best option is to offer frozen / thawed rodents, as the freezing process kills any potential parasites the rodents might be harboring. You can order frozen rodents from the Internet, just as easily as you'd order steaks!

Leave your snake alone for at least 48 hours after feeding it. Handling a snake too soon after a meal may cause regurgitation.

Be sure your corn snake has proper cage temperatures to help it digest its meal (and for general health reasons). Stress and improper cage temperatures are two of the most common reasons that corn snakes refuse to eat in captivity. A snake with a proper environment is more likely to eat on a regular basis.

It is not necessary to supplement snake meals with vitamin powders or similar products. Snakes get all the vitamins and minerals they need from their meals, without the need to add anything. Most of these "snake supplement" products are nothing more than a money-making scheme.

If your corn snake refuses a meal, leave it alone for a week and then offer another meal. Make sure the snake is not shedding because this is a common reason for corns to refuse meals. Also, make sure the snake's environment is set up properly (check cage temperatures, and make sure the snake has places to hide inside the cage).

Generally speaking, corn snakes have a reputation for eating consistently. I've never had any feeding problems with a healthy corn snake (unless it was in shed). If your snake refuses meals consistently, and you've checked everything listed above, it's probably time to call a vet for help.

I hope you've enjoyed this guide to the corn snake feeding process. You want to take into consideration what kind of dog it is, what dog behavior training you are trying to accomplish, and how old the dog is. But it is important to note that it is never too late to teach a dog a new trick. Here are 6 basic dog training tips to keep in mind.
1) Positive

The key thing to remember is that this is a fun process to teach your dog something new. Therefore, make sure to constantly offer positive affirmations in the form of verbal praise and treats. Whenever the dog does something correctly make sure they know it.

2) Patience

It can be difficult being patient but it is a process that is not going to happen in one session. You have to be willing to give it time and over a period of training sessions your dog will learn. Your dog will pick up on your emotions so hide those feelings of anxiety and anger and keep it positive.

3) Consistency

Consistency is vital with dog behavior training. Training your dog one day and then skipping a few will not get the job done. The more consistent you are the quicker your dog will pick up the trick you are teaching. However, it is not a bad thing to take one day off here and there to give them a break.

4) Short and sweet

The last thing you or your dog wants is a two hour training session each day. Around fifteen minutes is the perfect time for dogs to learn simple commands. Always make sure to stick with one command or trick per session and do not overlap the tricks within each fifteen minutes. And remember, praise is essential when your dog does something correctly.

5) No distractions

To get the most out of your basic dog training, try to pick a spot that eliminates any kinds of distractions. While this may be difficult to find, try to pick a quiet spot free of people or other dogs. Going in the backyard or an inside room typically are the best locations.

6) Above All Else - FUN! FUN! FUN!

Although this is quite repetitive, it is essential that you keep each session fun and lighthearted. Your dog will feed off of your emotions and if you are having a good time they will enjoy it as well. If your dog makes a mistake, you can be firm but friendly at the same time. And after each fifteen minute session, play with your dog for a while.

Over time you will begin to build an even greater bond with your dog as you both learn to trust in each other through these lessons. This will help you on the path to a long and loving relationship with your best friend. It will also provide the foundations for a well mannered and behaved dog who will be a joy to have around the family, and in the company of others.

Looking For A Quality Toy Poodle Breeder

The Poodle breed is one of the most popular breeds of dogs around. This loyal, fun and affectionate dog is one that fits right into many families. The Poodle breed can be found in three sizes, the Toy Poodle, the Miniature and the Standard Poodle.

The Toy Poodle is also called a Tea Cup Poodle due to their small size. They are around 5 pounds and about 10 inches in height. These tiny dogs do better with older children, but are extremely intelligent and very loving. They enjoy being with their families and are loyal.

This well loved breed is so popular that there are many breeders for this type of dog. It is important to find a breeder that incorporates good breeding techniques and a caring environment into their puppies.

What To Look For

A good Toy Poodle breeder can make all the difference in the type of puppy that you get. When first looking for a Toy Poodle breeder, ask your veterinarian. Since dogs need to be taken to the veterinarian to remain healthy, many have relationships with their vets and this can be a possible way to find a good quality Toy Poodle breeder.

The American Kennel Club may be another source for a Toy Poodle breeder. Many that show their dogs also breed them, and you may be able to get in contact with a good Toy Poodle breeder through this club.

If looking through the paper for a Toy Poodle breeder make sure to ask questions of the breeder. Find out if you can see both parents. If this isn't possible, as many reputable breeders don't own both the parents, find out if you can contact the other owner about their dog.

Find out if the pups have been raised in the home. Puppies that have had a lot of contact with humans from a young age are usually better socialized animals and make for a better pet.

Find out if the sire and dam have had any genetic testing and what the results were. A good Toy Poodle breeder should have information about the sire and dam and all of their medical histories.

Set an appointment to come and visit the puppies. It is a good opportunity to see where the puppy lives and the environment it is in. You can also spend time watching the mother with her pups and the interaction of the Toy Poodle breeder with the mother and babies.

There are many high quality Toy Poodle breeders available. Make the time commitment to make sure that the puppy you select has been breed in a good environment.

Top Five Reasons To Get A Dog

Anyone who has grown up around dogs, spent a little time with them or even just discovered the joy of owning one, knows there is something to the old cliché of them being man's best friend. There is simply something special about the bond a dog and its owner or its entire family can form.
Unfortunately, a lot of people have never really been around dogs and they don't quite understand the immense appeal of owning one. Of course it's true, dogs do take some work. They need to be fed, watered and exercise. Most importantly, they need to be loved. Those who are willing to put in the effort will find the rewards are amazing.

The top five reasons to consider a dog as a pet include:

* Loyalty. There are few creatures canine or otherwise that are as loyal as a good dog. These animals will give their undying affection to their owner for very little in return. A little food, water and a scratch or two behind the ear is generally all it takes to start forging a bond that will last a life time. It takes very little effort to gain a dog's loyalty.

* Companionship. Along with loyalty comes a level of companionship that is unmatchable. A good dog that has been properly trained will go to the ends of earth and back with its owner. Some dogs simply like to go along for the ride, others like to run the rat race along with their owners. How much or how little companionship takes place will be up to the owner generally - the dog typically will take as much as it can get!

* Unconditional love. Most dogs will love their owners no matter what they do or what they say. Even a misguided harsh word will have very little impact on a dog five minutes later. They are very quick to forgive and they don't seem to care how rich, how poor or how successful a person is. All they care about is pleasing their owners and getting a little love in return. If only most humans were as easy to get along with, the world would be a much nicer place.

* Protection. Even the smallest of dogs will go out of their way to protect their owners. Providing an early warning system for company, unwanted or not, and even a little brute force on occasion, dogs can be wonderful for ensuring a safe home. In fact, in many cases a dog's bark is more successful at warding off burglars than an alarm system.

* Joy. The simple fact of the matter is that dogs can bring a lot of joy into their owner's lives. There is something incredible about coming home after a long, hard day to a wagging tail and a happy face.

Dog ownership isn't for everyone. It does take commitment and a sense of responsibility, but the fact is for those who can handle this, the rewards can be amazing. Many people say they had never felt a love as pure and genuine before they owned a dog.

Dog Fences For Your Companion

Depending on where you live, a dog fence may be mandatory, and it is always a great idea. You may feel at first with a puppy that you are restricting their movements and making them unhappy, but in reality, you are keeping them safe. You will see as a dog owner that your first responsibility is going to be keeping your dog safe. Dogs that do not have proper fencing or that are not on a leash can get into trouble.
A car or animal that is going by may harm your dog and cause you more pain in the end. Therefore, you should construct the proper fencing for your dog. You should also be aware of the weather. Your dog will need some form of shelter for rain, cold weather or even hot weather so keep this in mind when you are forming the fenced in backyard or tying them to a runner.

Building an Enclosure

In order to build an enclosure you have to understand your dog. Some dogs have the ability to escape by digging or jumping over the fence. If you have a large dog, you will need plenty of backyard and a higher fence. You should also make sure to bury the fencing into the earth to make it more difficult to dig through when you have a smaller dog. You also need to know how you plan to use the fence.

If you are just going to use the fence for when you are home, then you probably do not need something to extravagant. On the other hand, if you are using it for a daily basis rather than keeping your dog cooped up while you are at work you should have something that will really keep them secure while providing them with plenty of space to play.

You might feel horrible for keeping your dog inside a fence all day, but remember it is for their safety. Training your dog to stay can be extremely helpful and should be done, but you have to realize instinct can over come the training you have provided your dog in some instances.

Your dog is an important part of the family so offering the best in safety should be your first priority. You would not set your baby outside without a fence and leave them without supervision whether they understand your command to stay in the yard or not. So do not make the mistake with your puppy or dog.

You do not always have to restrict you dog to the fenced in yard when you are home. You can take your dog for walks or let them play in dog parks, but again this is when you are providing supervision for them and allowing them the exercise they need.

Sometimes, indoor fencing is also a good idea for active dogs. You can purchase gates or barriers that can prevent dogs from entering areas of the house that they should not have access to. This can help keep them out of dangerous areas, especially if your dog is a chewer!

Crate Training Your Puppy

What is the biggest concern about bringing home a pet? You got it--housetraining! My family has dealt with this numerous times and we now have it down to a science. It helps that my son works for a local pet resort which boards and grooms animals. In this job, they have housed cats, dogs, birds, and even a monkey.
The best way to train a dog is to crate train them. Choosing a crate is essential. I like the wire crates with the plastic bottom that slides out. You can see your pet and it can see you. It is also easy to clean. Most of them have exits on the side and the front. Some even fold up for easy storage. The size of the crate is also important. Animals should be able to turn around. However, if the animal can isolate a part of the crate, it will be tempted to use the bathroom in that isolated area.

Some essentials to remember when crate training your dog:

1. Choose the right size crate.

2. You can put a small blanket in the crate, but do not leave food and water in the crate. Many people feed their puppy in the crate, but these should be removed after a short period of time. I prefer not to feed mine in the crate. I do not put toys or chew bones in the crate, either.

3. Puppies should sleep in the crate. When the puppy is small, you might want to put the crate in your room or bathroom. If the puppy wakes up, take it to the bathroom and put it right back in the crate. Do NOT take time to play with it or feed it!

4. When you are not home, the puppy should be in the crate. Also, leave the puppy in the crate if you can not supervise it. Do not allow the puppy to have too much freedom in your home or you will find that it messes up. Close supervision of the animal is essential when it is not in the crate.

5. When you take the puppy out of the crate, walk it immediately. Praise the puppy for using the bathroom outside.

6. Always walk the puppy just prior to putting it in the crate. Start training the puppy to go into the crate on its own. You will find that the puppy will go to the crate when it is tired or feels threatened. My dogs will go to the crate upon command. They do not mind being in the crate.

7. Once the puppy is completely housebroken, you may choose to let the puppy sleep with you or a child. The puppy needs to know that he does not leave the bed or sleeping area unless you take it. Again, take it out immediately if it wakes you up or when you get up.

8. I still leave my dogs in the crate when I am not home. I have two Pomeranians and the crate that I use is large enough for both of them. They do not mind being in the crate together. However, you should make sure that the pets are compatible before doing this.

9. Pets who are crate trained can travel easily by car or plane, even for long distances.

In conclusion, crate training is a process that will benefit both the pet and its owners. If you are consistent with the training, you will find that it is an effective way to housetrain the pet and minimize damage done while the owner is not at home.

Moving Pets Obstacles

Pet services have come a long, long way in the last few years. With the popularity of pet daycares, spas, pet clothing, and much more, pets and their owners have never had it so good! There are a lot of options for pet owners out there - no matter what it is that they want to do with their pet. However, there are still some difficulties in certain areas when it comes to pets, and traveling is probably the biggest area in which there are barriers for people with pets.
One of these travel barriers is the fact that all restaurants - even truck stops - do not allow pets inside. Unless your pet is a working dog, he or she will have to wait in the car while you dine! If you feel bad about this, consider buying your pet a treat at the restaurant and giving it to them afterwards.

Another travel barrier is paying extra cash for flying with your pet. Most airlines allow pets to fly, but not with their owners. Granted, the animal's airfare will not be as much as the owner's, but it is still an extra fee that some people do not like paying. Before you complain about the cost of flying with your pet though, call around to your local kennels and do some research on kennel costs these days. Add that to your guilt about leaving him or her behind, and paying that extra flying fee suddenly won't seem so bad.

When you travel with your pet, you tend to be very limited on where you can go. A lot of the popular vacation destinations are just not animal friendly, and many places will not even allow pets - especially at hotels. If you search hard enough though, you will eventually find a few places that might be pet friendly, but they will not likely be any of the places that you have seen advertised on the media.

Even if you do manage to vacation at a place that is pet friendly, you will not be able to take your pet sight seeing at many places, and this can definitely put up a barrier to your travels! It is no fun to have to call around and try to get someone to pet sit for you while you are on vacation, or even just traveling from one destination to another.

Another travel barrier that you may encounter when you elect to bring your pet with you is the matter of bathroom breaks. You can't exactly pull over just anywhere, and you won't always have a litter box or newspaper handy. This can be the most frustrating part of traveling with your pet, and there is really no good solution to this issue. The most you can really do is keep a careful eye on your pet and monitor when and how much he or she eats and take bathroom breaks accordingly.

Relocating pets can cause some problems and difficulties, but some people would just rather have these issues than be without their pet for a long period of time. If you fall into this category, make sure you do your research before you make any decisions as to where you want to go, and you will be fine.

Electronic Pet Fences Stop Dogs From Digging

When a wooden fence wasn't enough to keep our golden retriever from digging her way out of our backyard, we decided it was time to install a proper pet containment system to keep her safe and enclosed. Most dog owners install electronic fencing as an alternative to visible fencing, but the two systems can actually work together to secure your backyard.
The Invisible Fence brand system we chose works like all wireless pet containment systems. First, a wire is placed along the property line (or the containment area). Second, the dog (or dogs) is fitted with a special electronic pet collar. On approach of the property line, the dog's collar buzzes or beeps to warn the dog to back away. If the dog continues to approach, a short but surprising electric shock ensures that the dog returns to the safe area.

No pet fence is foolproof, of course. Proper training and conditioning of each dog is required in order to ensure that they immediately back away from the wireless fence as soon as the collar buzzes. Owners that fail to do this training may be surprised to learn that some dogs will still cross the fence line even if they have to endure a shock or two.

To be truly safe, though, a visible barrier can be used with the wireless fence. That's what we did with our Invisible Fence system by having the buried wire parallel the wooden fence along the perimeter of our backyard. You can even tack the wire directly to the fence instead of burying it under the fence.

The nice thing about this combination is that the two fences serve different but complementary purposes. The wooden fence keeps the dog from jumping or running off the property, while the Invisible Fence system keeps the dog from digging under the wooden fence. Since the wireless fence wasn't the primary means of keeping the dog on the property, we were able to adjust the system's electronic field to be quite narrow. This lets the dog approach the fence fairly closely without being warned away.

So if a real fence isn't enough to keep your dog out of trouble, consider combining it with an electronic pet fence to get total safety and peace of mind.

Dog Training Vs. Horse Training

Training a dog vs. training a horse are two different animals (no pun intended!) but the do in fact bear a lot of similarities to each other. The ultimate goal of training any domesticated animal is having the animal be compliant to our wishes and attentive to our commands. Whether you are setting out to train a dog or a horse, that concept should be your end game.
One important similarity dogs and horses share is that in the wild they tend to travel in fixed groups with one dominant leader (the "alpha") clearly in charge. In both dog and horse packs, the leader establishes his role via physical dominance. That can range from posturing and body language to harsher physical interactions, even attacks.

As horse and dog trainers, we want to establish that we are the alphas in relation to our animal companions. But that doesn't mean you should beat up your dog or horse! Dogs and horses both respond best to gentle, firm and consistent training that helps them realize we are in charge. We can do this by conditioning them to allow us to touch them, by not tolerating aggressive behavior towards us, and by teaching them to follow commands with a system of rewards and punishments.

One difference between dogs and horses is that while dogs are good at detecting our moods and attitudes, horses are excellent at it. Horses are much more likely to respond well to training when you approach them with confidence, focus and clarity. They can sense your emotional state, and they will often push boundaries if they feel like they can. Thus, it is critical to remain calm and focused when training your horse, and to show true leadership. If a horse senses your vigilance waning, it will become subtly more disobedient over time.

By saying that, I don't mean to denigrate dogs and say they're incapable of sensing how we feel. Dogs are very attuned to their masters' moods. But as long as you keep from becoming angry and abusive toward your dog, you should be able to train the dong without issue. Dogs absolutely adore their owners by nature, and it is this adoration that becomes the best training motivator. Historically we think of training dogs with treats, but the best dog trainers will tell you don't need to do that. In fact, it's best if you don't. The most effective way to train a dog is to remain cool and not overly affectionate with them, and then reward them with affection when they perform desirable tasks.

Like horses, dogs establish a hierarchy of dominance and you will have to establish yourself as the alpha. You can do this with firm authority, patience, confidence, and unwavering consistency. You want your dog to respect you, not fear you. Gentle yet firm physical reminders like a tap on the nose will work a lot better then screaming at or hitting your dog.

Another thing dogs and horses have in common is that they will take advantage of lapses in your firmness. You must always be vigilant and not let your dog or horse get away with undesirable behaviors.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://pets-guidance.blogspot.com/2008/01/dog-training-vs-horse-training.html' title='Dog Training Vs. If you could, take a deep breath and close your eyes. Visualize planet Earth and think about all the different landscapes that make the world so beautiful. Now think about the animals and creatures that roam through these amazing landscapes. After doing this, I bet you never once pictured the great tree frog in any of the scenic images you had created in your imagination. Well, if you did, your the one out of a few thousand who might have thought of a tree frog. Regardless, tree frogs exist in our world and there a lots of different types of them.
Tree frogs are slimy yet they are pretty interesting little reptiles. There are many different classifications that frogs belong to; tree frogs are frogs that are of the families Hylidae and Rhacophoridae. A thing that you probably don´t know is that many tree frogs don´t even dwell in trees. When it comes to tree frogs, there are arboreal frogs, terrestrial frogs, and aquatic frogs. Aroboreal frogs are tree frogs that live up to their name and live in trees. The terrestrial frog lives and roams on the ground, and I bet you can figure out that a aquatic frog lives in the water. The Arboreal tree frogs are more green while the other two types of tree frogs are more dull looking, like the color brown.

Tree frogs essentially chew on insects and other little invertebrates, creatures without a spinal cord. The bigger frogs though can chomp down on a good vertebrate creature however. The great tree frog roams in almost every region of the world. There are the European tree frogs, known as the Hyla Arborea, are usually found in the middle or southern part of the United States and in parts of Asia and North Africa. The American tree frog, also known as the Hyla cinerea, can be spotted in Northern America. There is a really cool type of American tree frog known as the Hyla versicolor because it is completely grey. There are other old world tree frogs that dwell the regions in India, Sri Lanka, China, South Eastern Asia, Indonesia, Japan, and as well in the West Indies.

Tree Frogs are more common then those other animals yo may have envisioned at the beginning of this article. Next time when closing your eyes and picturing the animals and creatures of the world, hopefully you´ll think of the great tree frog. If it is in the spring and summer evening time, you may not need to close your eyes to think about tree frogs. Several different types of tree frogs begin to croak really loud during this period when rain is about to approach. That means tree frogs are really smart as well because they can predict the weather. There are countless different types of tree frogs in the world that inhabit different areas and make the world the world we know it to be today.

What Are The Benefits Of Training Your Golden Retriever Correctly?

Training your Golden Retriever is not just about schooling him in the skills of coming to heel, sit or rollover. Although training your dog is a necessary requirement, it should be fun, fulfilling and rewarding, both for you and your dog and an activity that benefits and includes every family member. Essentially house training your Golden Retriever is important for your sanity and sanitation.
It can take a lot of time and patience to properly train a Golden Retriever, especially in the early days when several training sessions a day are essential. Dogs learn at different speeds according to their level of ability, but on a positive note Golden Retrievers are one of the more receptive breeds. Like all breeds, however they respond more quickly and more reliably to positive incentives rather than to fear or punishment. Training your Golden Retriever is more than just an exercise in learning and understanding for a dog.

Obedience training for your Golden Retriever is the best way to keep both you and your dog happy and should not be optional. Done correctly, it will build your relationship and bring about a change in character within any dog, which eliminates nearly all behavioural problems. Although it can get frustrating in the early days you should always carry out the training with a positive attitude and reward your dog when he gets something right rather than punishing him for forgetting.

A Golden Retriever, especially a puppy, will develop his own schedule and behaviour if left unsupervised. Use verbal reprimands instead of punishment and reward good behaviour with lavish praise. Severe punishment tactics can actually cause behavioural problems in itself and in many cases bring about the opposite behaviour than what you are trying to achieve, even compounding existing ones. Using positive methods to define behaviour is fun for you and your Golden Retriever and if he is clear about where he stands and his function within the group will have no behaviour problems.

If you feel that training you Golden Retriever is beyond you a dog trainer maybe the answer. Searching for a reputable dog trainer can seem difficult, but the first place to explore would be your kennel or veterinarian’s office. The first obvious skill to look for in a trainer is knowledge, but additionally successful trainers must have commitment, patience, and flexibility. Experience gained through the amount of different dogs he has had through his hands is also very important. He must be discerning, enthusiastic, and comfortable around dogs and most of all is able to relate to people, as well as dogs, in a class or one to one environment.

By using a professional dog trainer you will actually see and hear the correct way of housetraining and handling your dog directly from somebody who is experienced in the task. Bear in mind that most dog trainers, especially a problem dog trainer spend most of their time training the owners, so be prepared for this.

Golden Retrievers, like all dogs, do not understand the spoken language unless it's paired consistently with something meaningful to them, but they are effected by your emotions even when they don’t understand them. Be consistent in your commands and keep in mind your enthusiastic praise is the best training tool you have and will help him understand. The dog must understand that it is the bad behaviour that you don't like, not the dog itself.

A well trained Golden Retriever will give you years of pleasure and loyalty. However, when examined closely you will discover that you as the teacher will gain even more from this relationship with your canine pupil.

What Is Parvo and How Can I Treat It?

Say 'Parvo' to any dog lover, and chances are they'll cower in terror having heard of the full extent of the fatal illness. Parvo is a deadly condition in dogs, that often conjures images of a quick and painful death - but what's fact and what's fiction about this much feared condition? Depending on the strain, it is important to be able to spot the signs immediately, and to take action at once to prevent death or serious injury to your dog. With some strains of Parvo, you're looking at a couple of days from first symptom to death. With some of the newer, more aggressive strains - it could be a couple of hours. For that reason it is imperative to understand exactly what symptoms you're looking for, how to spot them, and how to treat them immediately to keep your dog healthy and safe.

So what should you look for in your dog to identify parvo? Well firstly it's important to remember that time is very much of the essence, so you shouldn't hesitate to act if you come across any of these symptoms. Also, look for discoloured, frequent vomiting and diarrhea, and a general increase in temperature along with bloating and excess wind. Whilst your dog can't tell you what's wrong, he can indicate that something's up, and by spotting these symptoms and acting upon them quickly, you could very well save its life.

So what parvo remedy should you choose? Well there are a number of remedies available, of which parvaid is probably the safest and most effective, depending on the strain of the virus that has affected your dog. Whatever remedy you are looking for, you should try to make sure they have long life spans to provide protection for the foreseeable future, and look to see that they are herbal with as few side effects as possible, to ensure it doesn't cause longer term problems for your dog. Remember that whilst your dog is in imminent danger, that's no reason not to take care when effecting treatment.

You can buy parvaid and other remedies and treatments for parvo online at heavy discounts, and most of the remedies come with a shelf life of a number of years to ensure you will always be prepared should the dreaded parvo strike in the future. Dog owners treat their pets as their children and at times, the pets are given far more attention than we give to our kids. We can talk in doggie language and know exactly what is on our dog’s mind when he stares at us at the dining table with those soulful eyes. Dog owners are the only people on this earth who will laugh to see their morning paper torn to shreds by an adorable puppy and if your dog hides your socks while you are getting late for an early morning meeting, only a dog owner will find it amusing. So, since we love our pets so much and obviously our world revolves around them, it is only natural that we would want to provide the very best care possible for our beloved pets. Sadly, most of us do not realize the importance of a dog health insurance and the crucial role it plays in a dog’s life.
A Dog health insurance is not necessary only when your pet is ill and needs to see a vet, the insurance can come in handy in many other situations as well. Keeping a dog is not just about his food, exercise and cleanliness, it stretches much beyond that. Regular, annual vaccinations, for instance are very important for the dog’s and your family’s health and these vaccinations can cost a tidy amount of money. God forbid, if your dog falls seriously ill and needs expensive treatment like a kidney transplant, the treatment can cost a fortune and even your best financial planning may not be sufficient. Also regular grooming and visits to the vet for health check ups on a regular basis can make a dent in your pocket if you do not plan ahead for such expenses when you are keeping a dog as a pet. In comparison, if you get a dog health insurance, the premium which you will pay monthly, works out to be much less compared to the costs if you were paying from your own pocket.

Many companies are providing various insurance plans for dog health insurance as well as other pet insurance schemes. It is upto the conscientious owner to select a plan that will fulfill all the requirements of the pet. A little background research and helpful reference form other pet owners or preferably from the vet can help you choose an insurance that is perfect for your pet.
The dog health insurance can provide a suitable cover for many other situations that may arise in your life as a pet owner. For instance, accident coverage, or coverage in case your dog harms a neighbor, etc, are also provided by insurance companies if you select an insurance plan with care. Once you have shortlisted a company and decided on the premiums to be paid, you and your pet can rest easy with the assurance that no matter what, your pet will always be looked after well under any circumstances

Healthy Dog Food

How to choose your healthy dog food? Reiki for dogs is a form of spiritual healing that helps harmonize the mind, body, and soul of your pet. It can be used as a treatment for relaxation as well as a tool for releasing negative emotions and limitations.
Reiki for dogs can treat many ailments that may be currently inhibiting your dog, whether noticeable to you or not. It can reduce stress, relieve pain, headaches, stomach upsets, asthma, back problems, sinus, respiratory problems, canine hip dysplasia, anxiety and many more. After performing your first session with your pet, you will see instant results of using Reiki for your dog.

Reiki for dogs is performed with a fixed set of hand positions. Each position is formed to create a specific desired energy outcome to ultimately bring your dog into balance. To understand how to use Reiki for your dog it is important to know the different charkas that are connected to the physical organs of the body as well as the aura.

There are seven centers of energy in your pet. Reiki for dogs focuses on changing the energy from one center to another to bring about balance. The hand positions control the Chi and ultimately free your dog's aura while allowing for a continual energy flow. The seven centers consist of the Root chakra, Navel chakra, Solar Plexus chakra, Heart chakra, Throat chakra, Third eye, and the Crown chakra. These charkas are specifically connected to different glands in your dog. Reiki for your dog will make the glands release hormones directly into the blood stream and control all aspects of your dogs daily activities and healthy thinking.

Freeing the aura is a major part of using Reiki for dogs. Before Reiki, your dog's aura might only extend a few decimeters outside the body. After performing Reiki on your dog its aura will resonate about 2-3 meters. There are several different layers of body in the aura that Reiki will expose for your dog.

Physical Body: the most tangible part of your dog's body. Here, Reiki for your dog will ease some of the most common fears about the physical body-sickness, aging and death.

Etheric Body: connected to the Root chakra, it is made up of a thin invisible layer that is only 2 cm thick that surrounds your dog's body. This is where the energy is reflected when Reiki for your dog gets it flowing from chakra to chakra. Many of your dog's dreams are found here.

Emotional Body: connected to the Navel chakra it serves as an egg shaped emotion reflector that contains the other two bodies. Emotions like hope, happiness, love, anger, and sorrow are all found here. Reiki for your dog can release these emotions from past problems your dog has suppressed and create an empty canvas for your dog to express freely.

Mental Body: connected to the Solar Plexus chakra, reflects logic, mind, and intelligent thinking. Reiki for dogs helps shape their reality.

Astral Body: the bridge between the spiritual realm and the physical world. Reiki for dogs will help them express unconditional love.

Etheric Template Body: connected to the Throat chakra, this is where your dog has its thought processes. Reiki for your dog will connect its past, and present to its future.

Celestial Body: connected to the third eye chakra, mirrors the subconscious mind. It uses your dog's intuition to bring about higher feelings. Reiki for your dog will allow your pet to have a love that goes beyond individual to universal.

Casual Body: connected to the Crown chakra, is the last body where the initial creative impulses begin. Reiki for your dog will have your dog's soul communicating with its conscious mind and mental body.

Reiki for your dog is a gentle but powerful healer. It will balance your dog's energy, organs, and glands. Reiki for dogs has proven to strengthen immune systems, relieve pain, clears toxins, and enhances personal awareness while relaxing your dog.

Pet Travel Insurance

You have the suitcase packed. The pet carrier is in the car. The travel arrangements have been made. Everything is in place for the perfect family vacation - all except for one thing. That is, protecting your pet with insurance; pet travel is just as risky as human travel and your pet is just as likely to fall ill or become injured as you. If you protect yourself with travel health insurance, protect your pet with a pet travel insurance plan. Pet travel can be fun and enjoyable, but if something happens you want to know your pet will be returned safely. With a small pet insurance plan, potential problems should not weigh so heavily on your mind.
Missing Pets Are Covered Too

If you are considering pet travel risks, you should weight the prospect of losing your pet as well as its health. Movies have been made about animals that have run away trying to get back home or were lost during a vacation. You don't want your pet making similar journeys. Consequently, it can help to carry insurance for such an occurrence. Pet travel can then be less stressful for you and your pet that way. You don't have to be concerned constantly where the dog or cat is.

How to Get Pet Insurance for Travel

There are many ways to put insurance on your pet. Travel companies offer brochures on what pet travel insurance plans are available to make your small family addition secure on the trip. You can also speak with your veterinarian about having your pet implanted with a microchip. Some people feel this is the only way to go. Others prefer a different route.

Keep it Tagged

You can have insurance on your pet when traveling by making sure the animal is wearing a special tag. Popular for dogs and cats, this tag is registered nationwide with the National Pet Health Registry. It will list the animal's name, owner, and veterinarian information. This can you offer peace of mind knowing that if your pet is lost, the person finding him or her will be able to contact the National Pet Health Registry to arrange for its safe return.

Pet Passports

Pet travel insurance has become increasingly popular in recent years. You can even obtain a passport for your pet in the United Kingdom. Most of the pet travel insurance plans cover the animal when traveling abroad as well. This way your pet is covered should he or she become ill with a foreign virus. Most of the insurance plans include injections, x-rays, medications, lab tests, and other costs for the veterinarian stay.

With this type of insurance, pet travel does not have to be a chore. You can take your whole family on the vacation you want; this includes the family pet. You then do not have to concern yourself about boarding your pet in a strange place with which neither you nor your pet are comfortable.

5 Canine health conditions you must know about

When people are sick we notice their sickness.....right? Actually, not all ailments are noticeable but luckily, when we are depressed, tired or have a stiff neck, we can tell someone about it. Unfortunately, our animal friends do not possess the gift of speech. Unconditionally loving, our pets take their lot as it comes. Arthritis, depression, asthma and many common ailments become a way of life for them, and we often notice it only after it is too late.
As voluntary guardians of our pets we take interest in their wellbeing. Intent is all very well but without knowledge we are powerless. Here are some symptoms and information about five common ailments which our canine friends are susceptible to.

Asthma Asthma is not just a human disease but can affect animals including dogs. Asthma is the inflammation and spasming of the airways as well as excessive production of mucus which results in difficulty in breathing. It affects dogs of any breed and age. In a severe asthma attack, respiratory distress may occur, the symptoms of which are: the dog breathing with difficulty through the mouth and a purple color to the tongue and gums due to lack of oxygen. This must be treated as an emergency and medical attention must be administered as soon as possible. Symptoms: Coughing is normally the first sign. During an attack, wheezing is evident (whistling sound made by air traveling through narrowed airways, normally loudest on the exhale). Dogs breathing will be shallow, rapid and labored. There is lots of effort put into inhaling and exhaling as well as dramatic movement of the abdomen. Some dogs lose weight and become lethargic. In less severe cases the only symptom is a chronic cough. Most pets seem quite normal between attacks.

Aggression Some breeds are more aggressive than others. Aggression is sometimes related to common problems such as past abuse, physical discomfort and related breeding problems. It is also normally related to specific situations such as only when eating. If your dog is constantly aggressive, this could be due to underlying causes like tension and stress. Symptoms: Barking, snarling, snapping, raised fur along back of neck and along the ridge of the spine.

Joint and muscle disease Sprains and strains are common in active canine though certain breeds may be more prone than others. Certain dogs may also be more prone due to their genealogy. Serious medical conditions are not uncommon. Arthritis (inflammation of joints), spinal diseases such as spondylosis and spondylitis are more likely to affect older dogs. Hip dysplasia (malformation of the hip ball and socket) can affect any dog but especially certain breeds. Symptoms: Overall stiffness (especially after rest), whimpering when getting up, difficulty in climbing stairs or in and out of the car, reluctance to exercise, lameness, unusual movements, disjointed or wobbly gait, swelling and tenderness in limbs or spine, shying away from being stroked along back, thickening of joints of affected limb, favoring the use of one limb more than another and irritability.

Fleas This is a common parasite among dogs. Some pets suffer very little from bites but some develop an allergic reaction to flea saliva which leads to severe skin reaction known as ‘flea bite dermatitus’. Flea saliva left under the dogs skin contains around 15 different allergens that can cause reactions in sensitive dogs. This can affect dogs of any age, gender and breed. The flea bites become red, swollen and itchy which leads to chronic inflammation, scratching of the skin and ongoing discomfort. Symptoms: Signs of chronic biting, scratching and rubbing of the skin, especially around the base of the tail. This may in turn lead to hair loss and thinning of the coat. Skin may appear red and inflamed. Flea allergy will be noticeably seasonal causing worse symptoms in summer and fall when fleas are more common.

Ringworm This is a contagious skin condition which is not caused by a worm but by a fungus. It causes various lesions on the skin though not always in the shape of a ring. The dog will scratch at areas which look scaly and inflamed. In time, hair on these patches may be lost. The problem is that it looks similar to other skin conditions like mange and allergic conditions. You should always take your do to the veterinarian to make sure.

Important note It is important that any condition is diagnosed correctly so, always take your pet to the veterinarian to be certain about any ailment. Homeopathic medicines are very effective and can be used alongside conventional medicines or completely on its own, but, once again check with a veterinarian. Prevention is better than cure so be sure to supplement your pets’ diet with vitamin supplements formulated especially for animals and combine with a healthy lifestyle. This should contribute to happy, healthy and natural wellbeing.

Good Trainer For A Successful Beagle Training

After the hassles in preparing for the coming of the new puppy and the excitement everyone felt in welcoming this new member of the family, it is now time for you to think about Beagle training. Training with successful result will surely give you a well-behaved dog with acceptable behavior. It is also one way of developing bond with your dog that could lead to lasting friendship.
There are lots of help you can get in order to come up with a successful Beagle training. Notes, tips, discussions and other information about Beagle training are widely available in the Internet for everyone. But then the problem is, you can not even sit to relax due to so much activities and hectic schedule. How then can you train your dog? Worried about it? No need to worry because Beagle training is not that bad and is not that impossible. All you have to do is to find a dog trainer. And make sure to look for the right one...

With so many people involved and interested in the field of dog training, how can you make sure that what you got is the right one? It is important to research well and find out everything about this trainer before getting his services. A good dog trainer has an excellent reputation. You can ask your vet, humane societies, other reputable trainers and breeder clubs. You can also ask some friends or neighbors who have used the service of this trainer. They are the persons who can provide information if your prospected trainer is really a good one based from their own experience.

Do not hesitate to ask question. Inquire about his training background, years of experience as dog trainer and their area of expertise. Look for a trainer who uses humane training techniques. A good trainer is more concerned about the dog's welfare and knows that hitting the dog's behind or other harsh and abusive methods are not necessary and will only create behavioral problems. Positive reinforcements such as toys, foods, attention or praise should be used to correct your dog's behavior. Trainers affiliated with reputable associations, organizations or clubs are recommended.

Above all, a good trainer is devoted and has genuine interest in training your dog. He is not after the profit he can get from training your dog but is more concerned of the primary motive of the training; and that is to come up with a well-behaved dog. One more thing to remember, do not be blinded by the fancy and impressive advertisements. Anyone can claim that he is a good trainer so beware!

Pet Insurance- The Best Gift For Your Beagle Dogs

Beagle dogs are popular and good household pets. Their even temper and gently disposition are what makes them ideal to become new member of the family. Expectedly you only want nothing but the best for your loyal friend, your Beagle. Beagle dogs are known to lack inherited diseases but still they are at greater risk to some diseases that could diminish their healthy condition and even affect their longevity.
Regular grooming and cleaning, giving of proper nutrition and vaccines for protection against diseases are ways to keep Beagle dogs healthy and happy. Those are definitely nice gifts and your pets will surely appreciate you for those gifts. But have you ever thought of getting a medical pet insurance for your dog? Most people are familiar with health care insurance... for themselves, not for their pets. Pet medical insurance is another best gift a dog owner can offer his pet.

Imagine your dog sick or injured. Cost of veterinary care could quickly rise and for some cases, beyond your ability to pay. Will you just be contented seeing your dog helplessly suffering and may be slowly dying? It will surely break your heart knowing that you can not provide the necessary medications needed to treat your dog and save his life.

Many people defer from buying insurance, much more pet insurance because for them, that is just a waste of money. But think again of your dog and the consequences if he is left untreated. Pet insurance is one way of keeping your pet healthy and happy without having to worry of the expensive costs of veterinary care. Getting a pet insurance for your dog is not a waste of money after all. Pet insurance premiums vary just like in health insurance. All you have to do is choose which one is best for you and your pet. Some policies may include annual check-ups and the required vaccinations, some include spaying and neutering and even death claims. Some policies are limited only to accident and illness.

As owner, you are well aware that Beagle dogs are working dogs and there main purpose is to hunt hares. It is expected that they will be spending more time outdoors whether doing their hunting activity or just for a mere walk in the park to meet their exercise requirement. Beagle dogs out in the field to hunt are more prone to minor injuries such as cuts and sprains and more likely to pick up fleas, ticks, tapeworms and other parasites. By getting a pet insurance, you can guarantee his health, happiness and his longevity. It is just right to treat him right after all the love and happiness he caused you and your family.

Buying Guide For Horse Bridles

Bridles are used for riding and driving horses (pulling a wagon or cart) and allow the rider to communicate with the horse. Depending on your style of riding you can purchase an English or Western Bridle. You certainly want to buy a bridle that fits your horse properly.
English Bridles have a noseband (leather strap that buckles around the nose of the horse,) these reins are then buckled to one another at the ends. Western Bridles generally have no noseband and the reins are "split", they do not buckle at the end. Western Bridles are usually decorative with features on the leather and they can also be adorned with silver.

Double bridles are used for English Riding in the dressage discipline and use two bits in the mouth at once, a snaffle bit and a curb bit. The two bits allow the rider to have very precise control of the horse and are usually seen in top levels of dressage.

Effective riding occurs when the horse receives commands through the reins. Pulling on the reins can be used to steer or stop the horse. If you have done your homework and learned how to ride, you should not need to yank on the bridle. You must remember that your horse's mouth is sensitive and you could hurt him if you yank too hard which could cause your horse to act out and resist the bridle.

A bridle that does not fit correctly could also hurt the horse. Leather straps could chafe and the mouth could be pinched by the bit. If you do not know how to fit a bridle correctly, ask your instructors, a knowledgeable horse person and even the sales clerk at the tack shop could help you.

It is always a good idea to start off using the gentlest type of tack possible, such as a cavesson noseband and snaffle bit for English riding. If you have difficulty knowing what would work best for your horse, find out if you could try out different styles, even borrow a bit.

There are a number of different bits and nosebands which give you more control; however they are more severe on the horse. If you are not an experienced horse person always consult a horse trainer before buying a different bit or noseband for your bridle.

The cost of bridles can vary considerably. You can visit your local tack store to look at the styles and types. Tack stores often have used tack for sale which is also an option. Keep in mind that you really need to buy a quality bridle. Bridles made of cheap leather or a second hand bridle with a lot of wear and tear is easy to break.

You can buy a bridle at your local feed and tack shop. You could take a look locally and then shop and compare prices online too. Used bridles can also be found in your local newspaper under the classified ads.

Dog Training Schools - What Most of Them Don't Tell You

Dog training schools can be very beneficial for both the pet and the owner. The common conception about these schools is that they train your dog to behave better. Actually, this is not the whole story. What dog training schools aim to do (at least the good ones) is teach the owners how to properly handle their dogs.
Think of it this way -- do you think there is a way to train a dog to be obedient in a short time that would cause them to be obedient forever? Behavior modification requires constant reinforcement to be done over an extended period of time. This means that after your dog has graduated from school, you will be required to continue the training.

Many people who use training schools for their dogs are wishing for a magic bullet, but they just won't get it. In fact, the owners who attend the classes with their pets have a higher success rate of actually making the training stick afterwards than those who just simply send their dogs off to training school.

For example, a reward system to reinforce good behavior is used by every reputable school in existence. Some schools may reward a dog with a treat, while others may do so with a sign of affection or a mixture of both. It is important that you stick with the same type of positive reinforcement after the dog has been trained. Otherwise, if you change the reward you give for positive reinforcement you can confuse the dog and make their behavior inconsistent.

The same goes for negative reinforcement as well. It is important to be consistent with how the dog has been trained to be punished after they have completed their training. Usually punishments are simple, like an authoritative no or a simple tug on the collar.

Finally, it is important to take the time to research your options when it comes to dog training schools before you sign up for one. Just like anything, there are good schools and there are bad schools Make sure that you go with a top-notch school. Make sure the school matches your own beliefs about how a dog should be trained.

Your Chubby Pet May be Cute, But Not Healthy

Not unlike ourselves, it's easy to over feed our pets. Between their regular feedings of that healthy dog food, they also get those in-between-meal doggie treats. And, let's not forget the "people food" snuck under the table that the kids don't want. And, anything dropped on the floor is fair game for our little furry friend. Before we know it he's no longer going for a walk, he's going for a waddle.

Many people don't realize it, but obesity in animals causes many of the same conditions as obesity in humans. Diabetes, for example. Obesity causes an increase in insulin because of increased blood glucose levels. As the need for insulin becomes higher than what the body is able to produce, diabetes mellitus will result. Just as with humans, if the condition goes on long term, the pet's pancreas will stop producing insulin completely. A regular regime of an herbal pancreas formula will help prevent and cure pancreas disease in your dog.

Another common illness that strikes our pets, as well as ourselves, is arthritis. Obesity doesn't necessarily cause arthritis, but it most certainly is a complication of our joints being required to handle an excess amount of weight. Our pet's joints react the same way under the stress and strain of a heavy body. Their joints being damaged can also lead to ligament damage. The animal's bones, ligaments, joints and muscles are all severely impacted when he's is allowed to become obese and sedentary. Start your pet on a program of a natural formula which will provide calcium with oatstraw, devil's claw, horsetail, safflower, and other pure ingredients to aid in joint and bone health.

High blood pressure, also known as hypertension is also common in overweight dogs. The heart has to pump extra hard to get the blood to all that extra body tissue. If the heart continues to be overworked, the dog could go into congestive heart failure. This can be a very serious condition for a dog. The pet's immune system needs boosting just like their master's. Since they live in this world of polluted air and other toxic environments, protect them with an immune boosting formula of dogwood, echinacea, goldenseal, astragalus, pau d'arco, cloves, cat's claw, yew tips and korean red gingseng.

And not to be forgotten is the respiratory system. Just as it's difficult for the overweight person to climb that flight of stairs, so is it for the overweight family dog. Because there's extra fat produced in the chest area, the lungs can't expand as much as they should. This causes shortness of breath and, eventually, could lead to serious respiratory disease, just as it could for humans. For temporary respiratory ailments, rely on an all-natural herbal formula that will help dissolve mucus and relieve chest congestion.

The obvious consequences for an overweight pet is that he or she is not going to have a quality of life that they could have if they weren't carrying around those excess pounds. If they're able to enjoy any activity, it won't be as much as they could without the extra weight. Don't they deserve a chance to live a full, rich life; running, jumping, and playing in the park or the ocean? Think about it the next time you're tempted to give in to that face begging for that greasy cheeseburger that you're eating. Instead, get him on a program of an herbal multivitamin and mineral complex, give him a healthy dog food and treats, and take him for a walk in the park.

How to Help your Cat with Diabetes

The word diabetes instills fear in everyone, but when you hear it about your beloved cat, it's heartbreaking. Studies have shown that 1 in every 400 cats will develop diabetes. So if you even SUSPECT that fluffy may be suffering from diabetes, you need to have your cat tested as soon as you possibly can.

Some symptoms that could be an indication of feline diabetes are excess urination, accompanied by increased thirst. Normally, your pet's weight will start dropping due to a loss of appetite. However, his appetite could possibly increase. Fatigue and depression may often set in. You may also notice that his coat is changing; not as shiny or healthy. Watch his diet, check the labels for added sugar. Start him on a program of an herbal formula containing such ingredients as moringa, fenugreek, bilberry and juniper berry to strengthen his pancreas.

With quick response and proper treatment to the symptoms your cat is displaying, feline diabetes can be put into permanent remission. You must establish a low carbohydrate diet for your cat, as this is very important, and must continue throughout your pet's life. He may also benefit by a diet high in fiber that can help slow digestion which, in turn, can help keep his blood sugars at a proper level. Some dry cat foods can be high in sugar and carbohydrates, so be careful when selecting his food. A low-carbohydrate canned food might be a good alternative.

Fatigue or sluggishness is often a symptom indicating your pet's blood sugar is dropping dangerously low. The remedy for this symptom is the same for cats as it is for humans. He needs to eat. But if the cat has gone too long without food, and you can't get him to respond, again just as with humans, you need to raise his blood sugar quickly. You can do this by putting Karo syrup on his gums, which will be rapidly absorbed into his body and should bring him around in short order.

It's not uncommon for cats with diabetes to develop a form of neuropathy. Neuropathy is nerve damage that primarily affects the feet and legs. It most commonly causes the cat's hind legs to become weak over a period of time, eventually causing the cat to resort to standing on his hocks, rather than his feet. The condition can become so severe that the cat will have to sit or lay down after every couple steps. Ultimately, he could loose the use of his hind legs altogether, if no action is taken to reverse the condition. Once the blood sugar levels have been returned to normal for a period of 1 to 3 months, neuropathy will often heal with no further action taken.

Because of the harmful chemicals and sugar laden commercial foods we feed our pets, it's critical to your cat's health to supplement his diet with an herbal blend designed to fortify your cat's immune system. It also helps to prevent and remedy disorders with natural herbs such as echinacea, goldenseal, cloves, cat's claw, yew tips, and other powerful ingredients.
